Something Else
We begin to know when we are aware that something beyond the mind exists within us. Some call it intuition, others awareness, the still small voice and even God.
The difference between the mind and this knowing is that the mind does not know itself. The mind is a narrator of all that it observes, but it is always outside the experience of what it describes. The mind identifies and borrows from words, thoughts and ideas. It plagiarizes what exists within consciousness and unconsciousness.
Knowing is realizing that we know in spite of the mind and ego. It identifies with the knower as being the source of the knowing and they are one in consciousness. Knowing is our deeper awareness of our true identity within reality and existence. It is the God nature within us, the oneness.
