Hostages of the Imagination
There is no fear in the moment. Fear only exists in the imagination. The mind, thoughts and emotions are all hostages of the imagination. Our identity in the mind is mostly imagination and without the anchor of our awareness, we are victims of the unconscious. We assume a role that is not real, not us.
Mental illness happens when a person is lost on the sea of the unconscious, without awareness and cannot find their way back home. They become swept away in a wave of dark thought, emotion, and imaginary influences. Their identity no longer comes from the truth within them.
It is still possible for them to find their way back home, but not until the false identity and the ego come crashing down around them. In that silent emptiness they may be able to recognize their true identity in consciousness once again.
