The betrayal within

Betrayal breaks the bond of trust, destroys intimacy, gives fuel to the ego and replaces love with the dark clouds of despair. This is not only true about lovers but also about us. When we betray our inner self, when we live a lie, when we cheat at pretending to be someone other than who we are, we have betrayed the trust between ourselves and existence.  This is the price of the ego and the damage it has done. Its existence depends on a betrayal within ourselves between who we are and who we choose to be. It gives us a false freedom and false hopes that can never be achieved. It lies constantly and promises fulfillment in activities that are as empty as what it promises. Betrayal of any kind comes at a great cost. It tears away at the roots of love and banishes one from the joy love brings.
